HOLISTIC PRODUCT DESIGN: IDEATE, PROTOTYPE, TEST
This course teaches a holistic, iterative approach to digital product design. Students will be introduced to the structure of a design sprint, a method commonly used throughout the product development process. They will learn how to quickly and effectively ideate using proven group brainstorming and sketching methods, then bring their ideas to life using digital prototyping tools. Finally, students will employ their prototypes in user testing. This course will be fast-paced and highly collaborative.

COURSE OUTLINE
1st Week: Introduction to Holistic Product Design
During this week, students will dive into methods of design sprints, prototyping, and user research that they’ll apply in Week 2.
2nd Week: Design sprints, prototyping, and user testing in practice
During this week, the class will be divided into small design sprint teams. Each team will be given a problem to tackle during the week and will employ the design sprint, prototyping, and user research methods they learned the week prior.
3rd Week: Group presentations
In this final week, students will refine their prototypes based on user research from the prior week, and present their work for a group presentation and critique at the end of the week. We’ll have daily design “stand-ups” to provide ongoing feedback.
